Snowman steals little boy’s Irn Bru

Posted by weehaggis on Saturday, December 23, 2006

The makers of Irn-Bru have outdone themselves again, with their latest TV ad for the festive season. Its a Scottish-ised (hmmm, that probably isn’t a real word) take on Raymon Brigg’s classic, The Snowman. Instead of somewhere over the south of England, we get some well know Scottish sights. Once again, pure dead brilliant 🙂

I just love the way whoever makes these ads keeps coming up with something different.

….and thanks again to YouTube.

A tale of fog, queues and no mince pies

Posted by weehaggis on Friday, December 22, 2006

Finally made it to Edinburgh about 24 hours later than expected.

Lets see…last time I wrote, just been told that had another hour’s wait before boarding. Sometime after that announcement, a message came over the PA for the SAS London flight that they were being delayed indefinitely as Heathrow was now closed due to fog. Nothing from BA !! Then 15 minutes later we were told to board. Thought the airport was closed. Who cares….everybody cheered anyway 🙂

Sitting comfortably, doors closed, mobiles off….then the captain says that we have a late take-off slot…in about 1 1/2 hours. Some passengers didn’t take this too well. One guy marches up the cabin to the nearest steward and starts shouting at him. Being in very frantic sounding Norwegian I didn’t quite follow what was being said, but I don’t think it was merry Christmas. Anyway, turned out not quite so bad. Off the ground in closer to 1 hour.

On arriving at Heathrow, those with connecting flights were told to go straight to baggage reclaim and then to the ticket office for rebooking. I already knew that all domestic flights for the rest of the day had been canceled and the fog was unlikely to improve much the following day. A helpful BA person advised not to even bother with the 4 hour + ticket desk queue, but to get a hotel for the night and to continue to Edinburgh by train the following day. By the way, “we have no hotel vouchers left” so you’ll have to find your own and claim the cost off BA. So I spent the next 4 hours in a queue at the hotel reservations desk in Terminal 4 arrivals – a desk only manned by one person I might add!!! Now it was 10.30pm and I had a very expensive hotel reservation in central London (more expensive than the £100 BA limit) – not much left to choose from.

The next morning after waiting on the phone for about half an hour I managed to get a seat reservation on the 10.30 from Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Kings Cross was hoochin and the train wasn’t much better. At least I had a seat. Some poor sods had to stand the whole way.

So, by late afternoon I was finally home. Now looking forward to another family Christmas. Probably going to be just as stressful 🙂

Live from Gardermoen…woohoo!!

Posted by weehaggis on Wednesday, December 20, 2006

Supposed to be flying back to Edinburgh to visit the folks for Christmas, but still sitting in Gardermoen airport. Flight has been delayed “until further notice” due to heavy fog over in London. 😦 Have wifi access so thought I’d come on here and whinge about it 🙂 Had a quick look at the BA site and all domestic flights are cancelled for the rest of the day….bummer. Checked my online booking and yes, my connection has been cancelled. “Just conatct BA or your travel agent” it says. Hang on, they’re giving out juice and sandwiches. Mmmmmmmmm, Solo or Pepsi and an Egg sandwich….yummy (NOT)!!!

Quick update. Just announced going to be boarding in an hour. Ok, what do I do when I get to Heathrow. “Ask BA customer services when you get there” they say. “They will have a plan in place for you”. That sounds very reassuring!!!

The funning thing is, had a similar experience last year too. Then I was flying Olso to Edinburgh via Amsterdam. Ended up spending the night in Amsterdam courtesy of KLM, when the leg from Oslo was delayed due to aircraft “technical problems”.

Shite!!!…boarding time put back another hour….and I only bought 1 hour of access time.

At least its not Christmans Eve….yet 🙂

Whew…

Posted by weehaggis on Friday, December 15, 2006

So, I went back to the dentist to see the specialist expecting him to drill out half my tooth. After poking around for a few minutes and having a look at the X-Ray again, decided that the root canal wasn’t necessary. Sent me packing….and there was no charge. Yeah, that got me too. Spending time in the dentists chair and no charge???

Looks like I can get that new TV afterall 🙂

Fame at last

Posted by weehaggis on Thursday, December 14, 2006

You heard it here first. I’m going to be famous!!! Well, not quite, but somebody liked one of my photos on Flickr and has asked if they can include it in a book they are writing. Not quite reached David Baliey status (yet) …but hey…I was still chuffed.

Wow….I mean Wow!!

Posted by weehaggis on Wednesday, December 13, 2006

Just finished watching the last season of Six Feet Under. Those last few episodes were an amazing finish to a great TV show. The final montage, with Claire driving into the future and watching everyone die was just brilliant. Not as morbid as it sounds. A real showstopper. Got to find out the track playing over that scene??? The Fishers are probably amongst the most screwed up, dysfunctional people on TV but still gonna miss them 🙂

Talking of TV shows, been slowly working through the Frasier DVD box sets. Now halfway into season 4. Used to hate the show when it first started on TV, seeing it as a feeble substitute for Cheers. But it grows on you after a while and can get quite addictive. Sometimes very clever and often laugh out loud funny.

Got a visit to the dentist on Friday…and no ordinary visit. Last visit was a few weeks ago for my yearly checkup. Everything looks good he says, but there’s something which concerns me with one of those back molars. Think it might need….(remember, he’s Norwegian)…..a…em…(trying to get the English word)….oh yeah….root canal. Nope, I thought, that’s not right….try again. Anyway, been fixed up with a session to see the “root canal” specialist to see what he says.

The really scary part….no….not the thought of impending pain, the uncontrollable dribbling from a mouth feeling like a slab of concrete, nor the sensation of my mouth sucking a football for the rest of the day….the really scary part was being told the cost…..yikes!!!

Joining Karla in the pub on Friday night sounds like a appealing idea. Without being able to get half decent non-prescription pain killers from the Apotek, alcohol is the next best thing 🙂

Junk Mail

Posted by weehaggis on Tuesday, December 5, 2006

Just recently got back after being away for about a week on business and was met by something which really gets ma goat. A mail box chock full of and literally spewing out junk mail. Yes, I now, junk mail is a fact of modern life. Its not the junk mail so much, but the stupid (and I’m gonna swear now) fuckwits who deliver it. When the box is quite clearly full, they keep trying to jam more and more in. Its amazing how much they manage to get into what is really quite a small box. The problem is that scrunched in there amongst all the Skeidar catalogues and local window washer flyers is real mail.

I keeping thinking of puting one of those “uadressert reklame nei takk” stickers on my post box, but given the stupidity on display, it would be no surprise if the people hired to deliver this junk can’t even read!! Even contemplated collecting a black bin bag of the stuff, marching into he post office and dumping it on the counter with a return to sender note. Probably wouldn’t go down too well…visions of being dragged off to the police station by the post office ladies and ending up in gaol.

I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!

Ok….happy thoughts….happy thoughts.

Talking of happy thoughts….Just discovered from the TV guide that I am now supposed to have some more TV channels. Yippeee….a proper welcome home present. Grabbed that remote and did the cable TV box update….more sports…ESPN and NASN, AlJazzera International, some kiddies TV music channel. Whooppeee doo!! Also getting CNN soon…at least its not Fox “fair and balanced Gorbels propaganda” News. Ok….sort of good news.

LMAO…just seen a TV ad for David Beckam’s aftershave now beng sold in a gift set at Cubus…..Does this mean Beckham now reached Brut by Faberge celebrity hell?
