oooooh…..sexy box

Posted by weehaggis on Tuesday, March 27, 2007

Just got myself a new ‘puter and it looks kinda cool in its sleek’n’ sexy black box with a sooooothing amber neon down the front 🙂 Its one of those choose your own bits and build yourself jobs. Although I got the shop to build it – coz when I built my last PC myself I managed to fry the cpu chip just by touching it the wrong way!! My last PC has been struggling for a while. Been treating it as my slave and getting it to do lots of heavy stuff …. couldn’t cope so it had to go …. sigh.

Was playing round with layers in Photoshop and came up with this (which almost killed the old PC) and was kinda chuffed. Got come cool comments in Flickr too 🙂

Anyway, thanks to Karla’s Rich, now got the grandaddy version of Photoshop, that’s CS2 (without the Elements 🙂 )   I had him bring it back for me when he was over in the US ( …. and yes it was over two thirds cheaper than buying it here).  Runs like a dream on my new PC too.

This is a first …. a cooking tip

Posted by weehaggis on Monday, March 19, 2007

That’s right, a cooking tip. Just discovered a new wonder of modern cookware ….. the roasting bag …. and had to tell 🙂

Throw some chunky chopped veggies into the bag, add a random selection of herbs’n’spices and a wee splash of olive oil.

Tie the bag, shake it up, snip a few holes, place on an oven proof dish and then into the oven at 180C for 30 mins.

Wow….I mean wow!!

I made it back again

Posted by weehaggis on Sunday, March 18, 2007

Well, I made it back from Chicago ok and without turning into a popsicle.

That was a few weeks ago, but once again haven’t posted for a while 🙂 Chicago is a pretty cool place, not as cool as New York or San Francisco, but pretty cool none the less. Got to the Field “Natural History” Museum and met Sue. She was a bit of a babe!!! Although, it turns out that nobody really knows if Sue is a she or not!! Anyway, meet Sue ….

It never ceases to amaze me how much cheaper it is to shop over the pond. A recent article in a Norwegian consumer magazine basically said – go to the US and shop, get your flight for free!! Although it’s in Norwegian, in a nutshell it says that buy a few small electrical goods and the savings will more than pay for your flight. The examples quoted include

  • IPod 40Gig – saving kr.1690
  • BOSE SoundDock – saving kr.1576
  • Tamron 19-35 lense – saving kr.1243

Total saving of kr.4509 and you’re still under the kr.6000 personal import allowance for the total purchase price. This will pay for an off-peak Oslo – NYC flight and (at a push) a few nights accomodation!!! To be fair, these savings would also apply to about any where else in Europe.

Another thing…Levi Jeans….Macy’s normal price $40, Macy’s sale price $27.99, UK normal price ÂŁ44 (about US$ 85)….go figure!! I haven’t even bothered finding out what they cost here in Norway.

Anyways….I finally joined the IPod generation and got myself an IPod nano. Sort of an impulse buy and of course the saving off the price back here had nothing to do with it 🙂 Decided against the photo and video capable IPod as I already have my Archos Av500. This makes the IPod photo and video features look positively crappy!!

One other thing, watching Fox News is real scary!! Hannity’s America – that guy puts Goebbels to shame.
