Will wonders never cease.  Just seen regular AND diet Irn-Bru in a local Meny store.  F***in’ amazing.  This is not actually the first time.  It appeared over year ago in one of the local Rimi stores.  It was only the regular stuff, and even then only a small number of bottels.  Odd thing was, they were just in a box…sitting there…..nowhere near the other soft drinks.   Probably didn’t even know what it was….thinking it was drain cleaner or the like.

There is even a Norwegian Irn-Bru web site.  Things are definitley looking up in Norway 🙂

…and if you were wondering what it is with us Scots and our Irn-Bru, checkout the latest ad…base on Kipling’s poem  “If…”.  Says it all…..sigh…..I’d better watch, or am goin’ tae start greetin’ noo 🙂

Irn Bru – It’s Phenomenal

Posted by weehaggis on Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Apparently Irn Bru is currently banned in the US. The food colouring Ponceau 4R is considered carcinogenic by the FDA. Hmmmm….guns and bullets cause instant death and they’re perfectly legal…..go figure. Anyway, at least it makes goths happy 🙂

This advert for Irn Bru 32, the caffeine loaded instant energy version, raised a few hackles. Some thought that the stereotypical glaswegian hardman was a bit too aggressive and tried to get it banned.

and the ad featuring the shaving mom was voluntarily withdrawn by Barrs after complaints that it was being offensive to transsexuals…..!! (posted earlier) .

BTW, looks like Irn Bru has now been sighted in Russia 🙂

Snowman steals little boy’s Irn Bru

Posted by weehaggis on Saturday, December 23, 2006

The makers of Irn-Bru have outdone themselves again, with their latest TV ad for the festive season. Its a Scottish-ised (hmmm, that probably isn’t a real word) take on Raymon Brigg’s classic, The Snowman. Instead of somewhere over the south of England, we get some well know Scottish sights. Once again, pure dead brilliant 🙂

I just love the way whoever makes these ads keeps coming up with something different.

….and thanks again to YouTube.

Irn Bru – pure dead brilliant

Posted by weehaggis on Wednesday, November 8, 2006

Was just having a browse through youtube and found some old Irn Bru tv adds. Started getting all nostalgic.

For the uneducated amongst you, Irn Bru (from Barrs) is a fizzy soft drink virtually unheard of outside of Scotland. Very sweet, very orange and tasted bloody awful to anyone not born within sight of yon bonnie banks and yon bonnie braes. Normally advertsed as “yer other national drinkke….made in Scoatland fram girders“.

Back around 1988 Barrs released one of their first TV ads for the amber nectar. It was pure dead brilliant then, and after finding it on youtube, I realised that it still is now. Its sort of a piss-take of the US produced Coke and Pepsi ads which were on at the time.

Well, I suppose you have to be Scottish to appreciate it. Not long after, this one appeared. Even more of a laugh and with not quite the punchline you’re expecting.

and then, the final one for today (you can see that I’ve just figured out this youtube thing). I wonder how the FCC would react if Pepsi produced anything like this in the US 🙂

Other classics include the ram-raiding granny, the sexy latin Raul advertising the diet version, and of course that foul mouthed cuckoo used for the new Irn Bru 32. Will try and get round to posting those ones too.
